Bathroom Awning & Shower Tent FAQs
Do these mount to the vehicle or sit on the ground?
Both the Ensuite and Compact models mount to your vehicle via your roof rack. They deploy from the vehicle and stand freestanding — no pegs or poles required in normal conditions. This makes them faster to set up and more stable than ground-based shower tents.
How long does setup take?
The Ensuite sets up in about 15 seconds thanks to its automatic strut system. The Compact is similarly fast — open, extend, done. Both are designed for single-person operation.
Can I use a portable toilet inside?
The Ensuite is spacious enough to comfortably fit a portable toilet alongside a camp shower. The 1.8 m open width and 1.4 m extension from the vehicle give you genuine room to move. The Compact at 1 m × 1 m is better suited for shower or changing use.
Will they handle wind?
Both shelters are freestanding and mount to your vehicle, which gives them far more stability than ground-based pop-up tents. For exposed conditions or overnight deployment, secure the shelter with a guy rope as an extra precaution.
What’s the fabric like?
The Ensuite uses durable canvas built for long-term Australian conditions. The Compact uses solution-dyed polyester — quick-drying and fade-resistant, designed for a product that regularly gets wet and packed away. Both are built for UV resistance and repeated use.
Can I pack them away wet?
You can, but try to air them out at your next stop when possible. The Compact’s quick-dry polyester handles damp storage better than most, but giving either shelter a chance to dry will extend its life.
Are replacement parts available?
Yes. Both products are built to be serviceable. If a zipper, strut, or fabric panel wears out, individual components can be replaced rather than scrapping the whole unit.
Where are they made?
Both the Ensuite and Compact are Australian made. Designed and built to the same standards as the Destination4WD awning range.
What warranty do they come with?
5 years (frame & workmanship) / 2 years (canvas)
How do these compare to other brands like Darche, 23Zero, or The Bush Company?
There are good vehicle-mounted options on the market from several brands. The main differences with Destination4WD are Australian manufacturing (ours are built in Cairns, not imported), full serviceability (every component can be individually replaced), and the Ensuite’s automatic strut deployment system. The Ensuite is also one of the largest vehicle-mounted shower shelters available in Australia at 1.8 m open width. Ultimately, it comes down to what matters most to you — size, weight, materials, serviceability, and where it’s made.
Which one should I choose?
If you want maximum room — enough for a toilet and shower together, or a comfortable changing space for the family — go with the Ensuite Bathroom Tent Awning. If you want the lightest, most compact option that still gives you proper privacy at camp, go with the Compact Shower Tent Awning. Both are built to last. The choice comes down to how much space you need and how much weight you want to carry.
